Boyscout Troop 144 Starts Fundraiser Campaign

Boyscout Troop 144 Fundraiser - Boyscout Fundraiser - Clendenin, WV News

Did you know there is an active, local Boy Scout Troop here in Clendenin? Not a lot of folks do. Boy Scout Troop 144 has been located here for years and currently has 14 scouts. The troop had been honored to lead most Clendenin Parades as the color guard, yep…that is us! Our boy scouts work hard towards achieving their Eagle Scout rank with service projects and merit badges. Each year the troop goes away to summer camp. This past summer they went to Camp Mountaineer up in the Morgantown area. They had fun earning merit badges in Kayaking, Rifle Shooting, Archery, Leatherworking, Emergency Preparedness and so many more.

The boys stay onsite for the week and take courses to earn merit badges they choose. The troop has decided to travel out of state for summer camp next year to Camp Davy Crockett in TN. It is located on a lake and offers over 75 merit badges like motor boating, snorkeling and small boat sailing. The cost for each scout to go to Summer Camp is $275, not including the travel down to TN. Due to this we are starting our 2019 Summer Camp Fundraisers early. This week we started our door to door Krispy Kreme Original Glazed Doughnut Certificate Fundraiser for $9.00 per certificate.

They do not expire and can be used at ANY Krispy Kreme location throughout the US. This is a pre-order sale with money due at the time of ordering and your scout will be back by Sept 17th with your certificate. Saturday, Sept. 8th our troop will be at AutoZone in Elkview (across from GoMart) doing a car wash for donations and selling 12 different types of Country Meat Smoked Snack Sticks for only $1.00 each. A few of the delicious types are Sweet BBQ, Pepperoni, Old #9, Sweet Maple Bacon, Mango Haberno and Ghost Fire just to name a few.

Our next door to door sale will be taking place in Sept which is our famous “Popcorn Sale” which is also a pre-order sale with the popcorn delivery to take place in Nov. And our last fundraiser we currently have planned will be a booth at the Clendenin Fall Festival on Sat. Sept 29th. We will be selling the delicious Country Meats Smoked Snack Sticks AND our Krispy Kreme Certificates. All the proceeds from these fundraisers will go towards offsetting the cost for our local scouts to attend summer camp. If you have a 6th thru 12th grade boy who is interested in joining our Clendenin Boy Scout Troop 144 please feel free to stop by one of our weekly meetings. They are held on Thursdays at 7pm located at the Clendenin United Methodist Church on Koontz Ave. Or contact our Troop Master, Theron Bittle at [email protected] or 304-932-2119. Thank you for supporting your local Clendenin Boy Scout Troop 144, we greatly appreciate it.

Due to the increasing cases of COVID-19 in the area, and surrounding areas, we have decided to prolong the Printing of The County Times until it is safer to distribute the papers in businesses. We were hoping to be back by now, but the risks are too high. Please stay safe and hopefully we will be back soon.
Thank you, Sug Sams
