Kathy Slack is a Hero - Liver Transplant in Clendenin - Clendenin WV News - Happy Stories in ClendeninClendenin’s Kathy Slack is a Hero

Kathy Slack is well known in the Clendenin Area for volunteering, helping others in need, and a great friend. She has been married for 16-years to the love of her life Scott Slack. In October of 2017, Scott’s Aunt, Sue Facemyer was diagnosed with NASH Cirrhosis, which in Sue’s case is rare since she has never used alcohol. Sue was placed on a transplant list, but the disease started taking its toll and her health started to deteriorate quickly. Even though the odds were against it, Kathy wanted to be tested to see if she was a living donor.

She had the tests in June and the results were positive, she was a match! Even though she wasn’t biologically related she will be able to donate to her Aunt! The surgery is in the near future and Kathy is excited and thankful to be able to give this gift of life to her Aunt. The surgery will be 8-hours long and recovery time for Kathy and her Aunt Sue will be approximately 8 weeks. Kathy slack didn’t think twice when the results came back for her to be a donor and that’s what makes her special and a hero in the eyes of many is her continuous giving to others.

The surgeries are costly with travel, hotels, and out of town living expenses, medicines, and other expenses that will occur during the procedures. Below is information on how you can help ease the burden for these two families that have always been here for the community and now the community needs to give back.

*My name is Brandi Carte and my mother is Sue Facemyer and is in need of a liver transplant ASAP and will be traveling to Pittsburgh, PA for the surgery as well as she will have to relocate both her and my father for 6-8 weeks post-surgery due to the hospital requires she be within two hours of the hospital..

Due to the increasing cases of COVID-19 in the area, and surrounding areas, we have decided to prolong the Printing of The County Times until it is safer to distribute the papers in businesses. We were hoping to be back by now, but the risks are too high. Please stay safe and hopefully we will be back soon.
Thank you, Sug Sams
