Editor’s Note – September 27th, 2019

Hello Readers,

Sad to say all our Vacations are over and we are back to the grindstone. We had a great summer and can’t complain about having to go back to work…too much! We already are mapping out our vacations next year and one includes going across country. Super excited for that one.

Now get ready for some pet-peeves of mine. I am a voter in the Town of Clendenin and vote every election, I pay B&O taxes on TWO businesses, I contribute to the community by donating to the Women’s Club, Schools, Sports, and about anyone who asks. Also, everyone that has ready my paper or knows me, I don’t “Sug-ar Coat” the truth. It is, what it is. I was told at the Council Meeting that I shouldn’t print some stuff because it was negative!!!!!!!!

Okay readers, ANYONE that knows me first…You DON’T tell me what I can print in my paper just because it might step on your toes! The truth is the truth! I didn’t start this paper to Sugar Coat news, it was to let the public know what’s going on, that otherwise no one would know! Town Council Meetings are to let the public know what’s going on and let residents voice concerns. I was told because I voiced concerns about music too loud, I was being negative!!! And since the complaint was against Councilman Knight, he got bent out of shape and was very rude, unprofessional, out of line in comments made that didn’t pertain to anything that was being discussed, raised his voice on numerous times, and told me I had no right to put in my paper about complaints of his music that other people should do it themselves. I explained my paper has always been a voice for the community and residents didn’t feel comfortable complaining against a councilman and that he intimidated them, and they were afraid of retaliation. In the last few months I’ve had numerous people complain about his music and heard there were many others.

(The noise ordinance is; No person shall make, continue or cause to be made by the use of any horn, bell, radio or loud speaker, or by the operation of any instrument or device, any unreasonably loud, disturbing and unreasonable noise of such a character, intensity and duration as to disturb the peace and quiet of the community).

The Chief of Police said if you need to complain about the noise there is a number you can call that’s not an emergency number and you can asked to stay anonymous and your name will not be given out. The number is; 304-348-8111. This number is for non-emergency calls. I don’t mind if you still call me or stop by to talk but remember this is your town and if I can stand up for you, then you can stand up also and voice your concerns and opinions also.

After the meeting, ones that was in attendance voiced how out of line Knight was towards me. I never once raised my voice and Knight on several occasions raised his voice towards me. I’ve heard the old saying, “If you can’t stand the heat, then get out of the kitchen!” Maybe this applies to him. This is my paper, I pay for the printing, taxes, licenses, and I am entitled to the Freedom of Speech code. I will print positive, good, bad, negative, what ever the news is. If you don’t want your name in here in the negative way, then don’t do negative stuff…PERIOD!

Until the next Issue…Keep Smiling! Sug Sams

Due to the increasing cases of COVID-19 in the area, and surrounding areas, we have decided to prolong the Printing of The County Times until it is safer to distribute the papers in businesses. We were hoping to be back by now, but the risks are too high. Please stay safe and hopefully we will be back soon.
Thank you, Sug Sams
