Elkview Resident Needs Donations For Liver Transplant
Every journey has a beginning, a middle and an end. This is Sue’s journey of getting a new liver transplant surgery and the assistance she and her husband needs.
Back in October 2017 Sue Facemyer was diagnosed with NASH Liver Cirrhosis. Sue is a good Christian woman who has never been into alcohol. A lot of people associate Cirrhosis with people who are heavy alcohol drinkers but it’s not always the case, as we learned. Sue was told by her “Liver Doctor” she would need a liver transplant this past January 2019. She was referred to UPMC in Pittsburgh, PA which is about a 4-hour drive from her home in Elkview, WV. On April 8th she and her husband travelled north for her three-day evaluation to see if she will be accepted into their Liver Transplant Program. Sue had to undergo an MRI, CT Scan, Stress Test, 37 vials of blood drawn and that was just some of the things they performed. She is currently waiting on an appointment to have a heart catherization completed, as per the request of UPMC, to help them make their final decision upon her entering into the transplant program. Sue and her husband, Eugene, is starting this journey with many unknown expenses that could be medical and travel related. Post operation alone will be a 6-8 weeks relocation into temporary housing up in the Pittsburgh area, in case complications should arise. UPMC is requesting that they stay within 2 hours of the hospital during that recovery period. Sue has insurance that will cover minimal medical, medicine, travel and accommodations but they fear that they will quickly reach the maximum pay out due to the distance between home and hospital. Sue is 64 years young but has been slowing losing weight and becoming frail. She is currently using walker to help escort her around. Please share this journey with your family, friends, co-workers, anyone and everyone. Sue & Eugene would also greatly appreciate gift cards for gas stations, restaurants or even Walmart (for essentials) while misplaced from their home during the recovery period and travel time.
