Gilbert Burdette Retires After 35 Years of Service
Gilbert Burdette of Clendenin has retired after 35-years of service at the Charleston Civic Center starting as a welder and within a few years as Supervisor over Maintenance. Gilbert could talk for days of his experiences at the Civic Center. Gilbert has met many singers including Garth Brooks, Faith Hill, and many more as well has been personal security for Faith Hill and Garth Brooks Family. He even made a trip to Idaho and was the three-day guide for campers and hunters after meeting the owner of the company at a Hunters Show at the Civic Center. Asked Gilbert what was some of his most memorable moments, other than meeting some big stars and he said when one entire section broke out in a brawl one night doing an event, Gilbert said that was one time he made a quick exit! Gilbert is an expert at shoeing horses and licensed electrician, welder, and generally a “handyman” of many trades. Gilbert loves to coon hunt and expects to get many nights in with his dogs now that he’s retired. Gilbert hopes to do a lot of “Handyman” Jobs to keep busy, so if you need a small job he’s retired and needs to keep busy. Gilbert also plans to stay busy as a grandpa with his third grandson arriving next month. Congratulations Gilbert on 35 years of service and enjoy your retirement.
