Motorists Urged to be Observant of ATV Hand Signals in Clendenin

Local Police Clendenin - PSA - Clendenin Latest News - Clendenin WV News - WV NewsFrom the desk of Chief Lucas SAFETY FIRST…

Motorists traveling the roadways in the corporate limits of Clendenin need to be alert for the All-Terrain Vehicles sharing the roadways with you. The recently adopted ATV Ordinance makes it mandatory for those ATV operators operating an ATV without mechanical blinkers to use “Hand Signals”. What this means for you is this…

If you see an ATV operator slowing down and sticking his/her left ARM STRAIGHT OUT; He/ she is attempting to let you know they are about to make a LEFT TURN. They ARE NOT motioning you to “come on around”.

If you see their arm BENT AT THE ELBOW AT A 90 DEGREE ANGLE; they ARE NOT waving at you, the operator is attempting to alert you that they are about to make a RIGHT TURN. LOOK TWICE, SAVE A LIFE! ATV’s have the same rights on roadways as the regular motoring public. Please look at the images provided, hand signals are the same for bicyclist, ALL motor vehicles and motorcycles operating without mechanical blinkers. Help us keep the roadways safe for everyone. I wish you all a very HAPPY NEW YEAR and may 2020 be the best for you and your families. -Chief Scott Lucas
