Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church Hosts Volunteers
For years now, The Lady of the Hills Catholic Church in Pinch has host volunteer groups to come into our area and help with much needed repairs on low income households. Starting early Spring they start taking applications from residents and by the time the volunteers arrive they have dozens of repairs lined up for the volunteers. This year they hosted two groups of volunteers, the first group came in the middle of June from St. Agnes Catholic Church, Evansville, Indiana. It was a group of 23, mostly made up of all adults.
The second group of 73 (50 plus teenager’s) with excellent supervision, skills, and knowledge was from St. Scholastica (just north of Pittsburg) and they spent the last week of June. The two groups combined worked on 26 homes in the Elk River area. The area extended from South of Big Chimney, Eden’s Fork, Frame Rd., Pinch, Elkview, Blue Creek, Clendenin, Bomont, and Thorofare Rd.
The type of projects they completed varied greatly form replacing floors throughout the house, plumbing in bathrooms & kitchens, painting inside and out, replacing doors & windows, fixing & building porches, steps, ramps, and the list goes on and on. Some of the group from Evansville even stayed a couple of extra days to explore the Gulley Bridge and New River Bridge area. The entire group from Pittsburg enjoyed a night out taking in a Powerball baseball game. Thank you, The Lady of the Hills Catholic Church and thank you Volunteers for making a difference.
